Life Limiting Illness & Disease
I have a special interest in the use of counselling for patients and their family living with a life limiting illness, and also those people who have overcome a difficult diagnosis but are struggling with anxiety and health anxiety.
I have experience and training as a volunteer therapist at St Barnabas Day Hospice in Spalding and Lincoln, Lincolnshire and Sue Ryder Hospice, Thorpe Hall, Peterborough, Cambridgeshire.
At the Hospice and in my private practice I have worked and supported patients with Cancer, Multiple Sclerosis, Emphysema and Motor Neurone Disease. The time to talk and be listened to, to regain some sense of control and to express their feelings in a safe, confidential space is rarely available these days, yet I believe it is essential when trying to manage a difficult situation and illness. Whilst at St Barnabas I attended several courses including Cancer Awareness and Communicating with the Dying and their Families. These courses have been invaluable in providing an insight and understanding into the life limiting illness and disease.
I am an accredited Cruse Bereavement and Pre-Bereavement Counsellor and an associate member of Complementary Cancer Therapies, a group of practitioners spread across North Cambridgeshire/Rutland/South West Lincolnshire areas, who have an interest in helping people affected by Cancer.
