Counselling
During counselling you are encouraged and supported, through talking and self-exploration, to gain a better understanding of yourself, your feelings and emotions and how they influence and impact upon your relationships, life choices and life in general.
I observe strict client confidentiality and my approach is non-judgemental, empathic and compassionate, respecting diversity in every aspect. I recognise that your problems and concerns are unique to you, and tailor my approach and sessions to ensure that your needs are met. The counselling relationship underpins the work that we will do together and my approach is professional, warm and collaborative, which means that the emphasis is on honesty, respect and working together with the focus on you, the client, and what you want to change.
I am a registered member of the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (MBACP), and as an integrative counsellor I work with all counselling disciplines including: humanistic including person centred, CBT (cognitive behaviour therapy) psychodynamic, transactional analysis, attachment theory and existential theory. I have experience of working with confidence, self worth and self esteem issues, family and relationship issues, anxiety, panic attacks, depression, childhood and domestic abuse and specialise in problems associated with loss including: pre-bereavement, bereavement, miscarriage, abortion, betrayal and affairs, divorce and separation, redundancy and empty nest syndrome and retirement.
I work with individuals on a one-to -one basis, couples and young people over 16 years. The counselling can take place face to face or online whichever you prefer. I offer unlimited sessions to suit your need and these can been weekly or fortnightly depending upon availability. The focus is very much on you, your counselling need and requirement.
Couple counselling can help people improve thier relationships and communication. If we feel our relationship is in difficulty it can feel a very lonely place. Perhaps you are feeling unheard, unappreciated and taken for granted. During these times it isn’t always easy to remain empathic and considerate. Old historical wounds and scars from childhood or previous relationships can resurface and this complicates matters further. The stresses of work, life and family commitments can make time as a couple difficult to achieve. Counselling can help to understand triggers and recognise unmet needs, improve communication and empathy and help to rebuild the connection and feelings for one another that have become strained.
I also offer counselling for people with a life limiting illness and their family, as well as the survivors’ of serious disease. An unexpected diagnosis can leave you and your family feeling shocked and frightened. By talking about and sharing your feelings with a counsellor, it can give you an improved a sense of control and help to manage your anxieties more successfully.
Like all professional counsellors I receive monthly supervision to ensure that I am practising ethically and to best practice. Supervision also enables me to maintain the professional standards required, to provide you with safe, effective and supportive counselling.
